Modern & Tradition Coexists – Love it:)

Two gates lead up to this Buddhist temple right at the foot of Tokyo Tower. At night, the skyline illuminated the lovely coexistence. & Oh yes that Seattle coffeehouse dotted this town everywhere including this path between the 2 gates leading up to the temple gate. No photo taking allowed of the Buddha.

Tokugawa Shogun is honored here which seems appropriate for this humble warrior… to pay respect. This Buddhist sect had their 21st century proclamation which translates roughly to:

Self-Awareness to the ignorant and foolish

Buddha’s Light to reach all families

Greater Compassion in our society

More sharing among all lives inhabiting this world.

******

To which we – Gassho. 🙏

DOG DOG DOG

Got my fortune 🔮 at a Shinto shrine ⛩ in Tsukiji after a sushi lunch at a secret sushi counter where the owner forbids any photo taking – he says he does not want his regular clients to be inconvenienced by becoming too popular which he will surely become if anyone posted his offerings – I felt like crying with gratitude for the delicacy of freshest seafood he highlights for the “Omakasa” means “leave it up to the chef” – it’s SO fresh, so clean, so delicious – I was savoring each bite, thanking the divine for the delicate morsels he places on the bamboo leaf/plate. Yesterday, paid respect to a golden Buddha at a Buddhist temple at the foot of Tokyo Tower. It’s not that I went looking for temples and deities – small shrines and temples are all over even in Tokyo. With an offering you can get a little amulet or a fortune. My fortune’s key word was “growth “, while my travel companion’s was …

Eyes popped out with this price tag of a beanie shiva inu. Small is not only beautiful in Japan, it’s quite …expensive!

Going home to my Shiva in California soon:) There’s Shiva inu rescue and all kinds of dog rescue groups – while there’s no judgement as this beanie shiva with a price tag of $5000 is precious so are lives of all those dogs waiting to be rescued and … adopted into a new loving home. It’s act of kindness how rescue dogs end up rescuing humans in need of unconditional love – who rescued who ? It’s priceless.

Healthy Living Yoga

Have you read this article from awhile back? A refresher on WHY YOGA?

A practice that helped these gentlemen lose 20 lbs and heal from back pains and headaches – and … may I add, having returned to Japan and back to deal with my mother’s declining health – the practice helps with fears of … death and aging of your own …and of others if you study Yoga Philosophy as well. Look up “Meditate on This: a Nationwide Chain of Yoga Studios” a New York Times article from March 10, 2005.

Smart people turn to yoga for salvation because it’s self-directed self care that they can manage themselves – it’s empowering because you are not being treated – you are doing it .. yourself. You are listening to yourself and sharpening the skills to self- heal … what could be more empowering ? To be in charge of one’s own health … being one’s own guru. If you’ve been trying all kinds of alternative medicine, Yoga is that practice that works. If it’s done regularly and appropriately, customized to one’s own level and condition. I love yoga especially because it’s so self-directed. Sure, you are listening and following the instructions from a teacher but … you make it your own after repeated practice. The teacher is just there as a guide – kind of like a well studied and experienced sherpa on a mission to take you through a very safe but productive Himalayan trekking expedition or something ! Ultimately it’s you who do that work to get “there”.

Having said that … a good teacher is so important. Someone one can trust; someone genuinely concerned with student’s wellness, wholeness and growth. Someone who does not look at each student walking into the classroom as a dollar figure nor as a means to feed one’s ego … but rather … a beautiful light … souls who all came from the same source, that humanity we are deeply connected to and share. My intention is to make each class I teach a meetup of beautiful souls, practicing to transform for the better. There’s this quiet tribal energy, a vibration of prana all around and within us.
