I love vinyasa flow yoga as any other yogini, as well as alignment based Iyengar yoga… but, wait – there are other styles that can complement a practice with those orthodox two at the core for a well rounded program. The kind of yoga that brought me back to yoga is for everyone. Not just for the former gymnasts and ballet dancers – it’s not acrobatics – it’s for both beginners and advanced and all in-between who seeks optimal holistic health. Yoga is for everyone OR another way to phrase it would be:
Yoga may NOT be for everyone BUT it’s for YOU !
I guess people actually read my posts…SO many great teachers here in San Francisco/Bay Area/Silicon Valley – have to count my blessings. There’s no need to go to India (well, okay, LOVE to go), New York or Los Angeles…for “better” yoga. Here is the epicenter – our world, the familiar and the great; right here on the mat, here and now in our space. We need not travel far. Yoga is here, in our neighborhood…select what resonates with you and stick with it.
All teachers are students, with Beginners’ Mind.
“If your mind is empty, it is always ready for anything, it is open to everything. In the beginner’s mind there are many possibilities, but in the expert’s mind there are few. ”
― Shunryu Suzuki
Everyone comes from diverse background, with different unique life story to tell and each shares their Yoga with their students in a different style. Our paths may be slightly different but the journey we have embarked on is the …same. Stories and narratives do differ yes; but their commitment and intentions in teaching, the same. You will find a teacher who resonates with what you are looking for, given the limited time you have.
We cannot be at every class with every teacher you fall in love with – we make the choice. Sometimes, its self-selecting based on our timeline, our “schedule”. So I think any teacher who is dedicated and devoted to sharing the gifts of yoga is … a gift. Lucky for us, we are blessed with some very dedicated teachers right here- Happy to recommend and refer. I am just so humbled by them. In gratitude to all.
