“Members of the Dauntless faction are brave, for example, and serve as the warrior class, protecting the city. Abnegation members are selfless and run the government, Candor are devoted to honesty and run the courts, Amity value goodwill and tend farms, and Erudite cherish intelligence and serve as teachers and doctors.”
I’d like to be Amity… Joyful and Productive, la, la, la ~peace loving hippie garden tender… but there’s a bit of Erudite and Dauntless in me ( or so I’d like to think…) and as my dear friend stated matter-of-fact in the post-movie ice cream line, ” I just know I could never be Abnegation”… I had to nod in agreement. Perhaps when I can pronounce the word, “Abnegation”, I will be ready to instill in me that quality of selflessness:)
Seriously though, when I teach yoga, it’s the closest one can get to that mindset – I am in total mode of service and reject ego to enter into the practice. It is not selfless as in being a sacrifice but selfless in thinking about wanting so much for others to feel better. It’s more about finding joy through shared joy… We might be all Divergent… and of course, it takes ages 17 and under, the young adults, to bring that to our attention.
