Watching action packed Divergent in which heroine Shailene Woodley, plays a tough “Dauntless” warrior, it is hard to believe that Woodley suffered from this condition since diagnosed at age 15. In the film, she’s Tris, the Dauntless, brave powerful warrior with upright posture who has intense combat scenes with boxing, martial arts moves she takes on with natural grace. She suffered Scoliosis?
What is Scoliosis? With scoliosis, when checking from behind, the spine looks like an “S” or a “C” rather than a straight line. This condition can result in uneven shoulders, a prominent shoulder blade, or an uneven waist indicating body’s tendency to compensate for spine’s misalignment.
Untreated, the nerve pain caused can be debilitating. Apparently her spine had a 38-degree curvature (over 45 degrees means you end up as a candidate for surgery) and early detection and treatment of wearing braces saved her from further deterioration.
So what is her fitness regimen today to maintain supple, strong and better aligned spine? It’s reported that she does nothing special but regularly makes time for: Barefoot running and Yoga Workout !
Makes sense. No wonder she exudes that look of glowing health:
“I do what feels good to my body that day and I practice lots of yoga.”
– Shailene Woodley
