Tonight’s Class – Look up at the dark sky & …Find it…

Chandra Namaskara …Lunar Salutation … of course on a full moon evening… Modified version by skipping over few yang standing poses to make it more low – key and earth hovering…grounding…

It is a 90 minutes class and I always run out of time – how is that possible?  Time seems to pass faster and faster these days.  My ideal class would have no clock and I am no longer the time keeper… the night falls and the room darkens and yet each of us are all lit up,  eyes, glistening with lucidity in a moon-lit space.  We will awaken from our meditative state and go Home, body light as feather, mind crystal clear; and spirit, at peace.  That would be my ideal way to spend the Sunday evening – dinner?  Nooo, why ruin the moon light magic? I would take the opportunity to do a mini-detox fast*… read in bed and … ahhh, it’s heavenly when your pillow feels like a fluffy cloud…

Full Moon

Your beauty mesmerizes
Your light shines
Your presence makes our spirit soar
You are so full and soulful
Illuminating the night for all

– Fortunato

Counting my blessings tonight.  Now I am ready for the Monday madness…In gratitude to mother nature.

Yawn… Good Night:)

* This mini-detox fast is recommended by an amazing macrobiotic/vegan chef and cooking teacher, Shinobeau McConney of Santa Cruz.  If she cooked for you, you will never notice the lack of meat nor will you even miss it.  I look forward to her workshops as each time, I feel healthier than ever with more restored energy.  Thank you Shinobeau-sensei.  You are so gifted and your creative energy and love for medicinal but tasty foods is inspiring to behold.

Next week…

Speaking of the ritual of circling your calender…

I will be subbing for my lovely yogini friend Nancy I admire so much, next Tuesday morning at Bay Club, Redwood Shores – Come join me for Morning Yoga Level 2/3 practice  – I love Nancy – when I asked her what kind of class should it look like, she replied – whatever you want – just make it at least level 2-ish. Her words are so comforting – “You teach whatever you’d like… the students are all very nice and I know they will like you.” When someone entrusts you a class like that you are compelled to just rise to the occasion. Thank you Nancy for your vote of confidence –  your trust and yes, I will be sure to take good care of the students ! I will dutifully comply to your words and produce a level 2-3-ish class:)

Oh, by the way,

This level 2/3 thing – although I assume I do not have to rehash down-dog how to’s, wondering what does it mean?  More I delve into yoga, more I feel like I just began – Humbled, I am forever a beginner, basic student… “Zen Mind; Beginner’s Mind” to quote Suzuki Roshi’s Classic book.  Putting ego aside and forever a beginner, I can be found taking a basic class or just breathing in restful Child Pose in advance class when I am not teaching…  so really, it’s yoga for everyone I hope to teach.  Anyway, that’s my intention:)

Circle your calender – Sunday, March 15th is special because…

It’s full moon that night.  Notice how it feels to be placed between the moon and sun. What it feels to be part of this universe… to be connected to this natural world.  Tune into your inner orbit, tune into your own natural rhythm… Allow your rhythm to harmonize with everything around you.

In our solar system, moon orbits around the earth, earth orbits around the sun… moon, earth and the sun is in near approximate alignment (off by about 5 degrees on the earth-sun orbital plane) at full moon… As we approach the Spring equinox we follow the flow of nature, stretching our limbs and come out of hibernation mode, unfurling new life as blossoms around us flower.

We direct our attention to the moon and the sun for a renewed source of energy …Many of us may feel a bit like a yawning child roused from delicious slumber, losing one hour over the last weekend when the daylight savings time went into effect.  It’s harder to rise in the morning and it’s easier to stay awake later into the night…or disturbed sleep at wee hours of the morning for no apparent reason…  March is a month of transition. May your practice provide stability through the change in season as Spring Equinox nears. Spring Equinox is on the 20th this month.  I love March – it’s my birthday month:) Yeay!

The night is still young at 4:15 but if you want to feel restored, stop by the studio – the studio is ECO-GREEN and so CLEAN and most importantly relative to our practice… enough props for support:) to share… it’s a lovely space to take a deep breath … and let go. Let all the cares of the world you are carrying on your shoulders just melt away.
