“Emotions don’t compute”

by Gabor Maté M.D – The Biology of Loss and Recovery … Here’s the talk. It’s just so … dead on.

Enough of my escapades even though I have more to share … this weekend I am back to my Yoga Therapist Teacher Training. The module for the weekend is “Trauma informed Yoga”.
It is sobering to learn that “trauma” is so prevalent in our society as this data indicates.
How does yoga have anything to do with healing? Everything – everything. Whenever we deal with Fight, Flight or Freeze reactions, yoga therapy can really really help and I am here to learn all about it.

But emotions are … human. It’s everything real. They are what makes us human so do we need to control them?

After seeing this video, so convinced how yogis can help – we can help the parents and grandparents and … teachers ! Parents and teachers have immense responsibility. Yoga can support their work. Their work to raise healthy happy kids ! Who grow up to be well adjusted, resilient adults who make this world a better place for all.

“Solution is mindfulness.”

And as with anything you teach, it starts with you, the teacher.

Thank you to student

Ah … for me?
I am lucky to be blessed with students I have much to learn from in terms of kindness and generosity. The lovely Ms. M always knits these yoga socks I can’t live without these chilly mornings (lets the toes and heels be free- kind) and then …  Here’s another example.   (Once upon a time:) After one yoga class, a lovely (cute) lady comes up and says “I have something I want to give you.”

Then gives me this cute little button of a flower … ? What is it?

Pomogranate or Beets juice? What!!!?? A handmade lipgloss made from only natural ingredients, colors from plant juice – nothing artificial.  She tells me she makes all the soaps, lotions etc for the family and does not buy any cosmetics because she makes them. What !???  I am so impressed.   Here’s to true ageless nature girl:)

Spring is in the air – cannot wait to try this sweet scented color from such a sweet being.  Namaste.  oxox

Rabbit Pose

LOVE Sasangasana

Sasanga = Rabbit

Asana = Pose

What does it do – why does it feel good?

– stretches out the spine.
– with arms engaged, palms cupping the heels – pull – that pull feels – oh – so – good:)
– relieves neck stiffness.
– while that choking feel at he chin may not be comfortable, breathe through.
– clears my head – it’s a controlled inversion. With only about quarter of the body weight at the head; all else supported at the pelvis.
– May clear the dark clouds of depression, anxiety and mind-fog.
when done right and safely, with minimal weight on the crown of the head.
– again, stops the agitation in its tracks to bring on the calm.
– strengthens the arms/shoulders while relieving their tightness.
– engages the core by pulling in the navel towards the spine,
– engage in diaphragmatic breathing.
– Grrrrreat in toning the thyroid glands.

Caution – please do not turn your head once in the pose – chin affixed into the jugular notch, crown of the head scratches the mat/floor but not burdened with any weight.
It’s your core and your arms support that creates the inversion NOT the head bearing the weight of the upper body. That would be unkind to the neck and cause for injury.
More to follow on this …

Trying to learn names of yoga poses?

How about flash cards as you you did in school in aiding memorization of foreign terms and vocabulary.  It is afterall another language.  This site has a nice set for those with such learning style:
