SuperMoon this week…

newmooncloudsThe new moon or full moon has to come within 361,836 kilometers (224,834 miles) of our planet, as measured from the centers of the moon and Earth, in order to be considered a supermoon according to astrologer Richard Nolle… & by that definition, it’s …tomorrow ! January 20th marks the “Super” New Moon:)

The year 2015 has a total of six supermoons when the moon is aligned closest to earth. The first supermoon, for 2015, will come with the January 20 new moon. New Moon day is considered a lucky day to start a new project:)

Living in California, one tends to be a bit “oblivious” -when it comes to seasonal awareness. It’s winter now, WINTER. Spring Equinox is March 20th this year… In March, we see the arrival of … spring. If we were a bear, we’d be hibernating … Still cold, flu season so … take care. It’s winter for a bit longer. I will incorporate this sequence this week:

Winter is nature’s time of hibernation and retreat. The active rest phase in winter is necessary to replenish your internal batteries after the fall harvest. In the Chinese Five Elements system, winter is a time to maintain active chi flow though the kidneys and urinary bladder, the organs that primarily move water through the body.

In this Yin practice, we will explore asanas that open the kidney meridian channels on the front of your spine, and urinary bladder channels on the back of your spine which feed into your hamstrings. By keeping the water element moving during this cold season you will feel fluid, self-expressed, and emotionally well. (excerpt from Gaiam TV)

Doesn’t this practice sound lovely? Just what we need this time of the year…so before I take off to a coolllld and sometimes snowy Tokyo, we will take care of ourselves with TLC.

What’s Yogic?

photos from 8/2012 hike to Phantom Ranch, near death experience lol…6-7 hours to get to Phantom Ranch and then 8-9 hours to get back up to South Rim…sm_IMG_1670sm_IMG_1633IMG_1637

It’s like trying to describe what you feel when you’re standing on the rim of the Grand Canyon or remembering your first love or the birth of your child. You have to be there to really know what it’s like.

– Harrison “Jack” Schmitt

Some things can’t be explained – You just have to experience it to know it.

****************
Jack Schmitt is a former NASA astronaut, scientist/professor and a retired US Senator from New Mexico. He was the first member of NASA’s scientist-astronaut group to fly in space, specifically on Apollo 17 & Apollo 17 was the last of the Apollo missions. Consequently, he became the twelfth person to set foot on the Moon:) For real. Realizing not everyone can actually physically land on the moon – power of imagination is better than reality at times.

Harmony vs. Chaos …

Sign of a sophisticated student = cultivates harmonious and peaceful practice…
Chaotic vs. Yogic … which do you prefer? Be wise or crazy? Be relaxed and at peace or in chaos? I know what my needs are; what about you?

This is from another class but found on Utube – wish I had recorded the intensives too as it was indeed intense but… under her expert guidance, not once feared getting hurt in any way. It’s not the self-proclaimed “torture chamber” of Bikram – still just as hard but smarter. She had the total trust of entire 50+ teachers that she will not create a situation that could cause any kind of harm to our body and mind/ego. When you totally trust the teacher, there is no room for fear – then you are freed up to let go of yourself more – because you know you won’t get hurt under her guidance. No fear when you trust the teacher who fosters trust in yourself – When you know the teacher is no longer needing to teach for fame or monetary gains, or to feed the ego – rather, that she’s teaching as a way to serve … as an outlet for her passion – then that purity invites greater trust and respect. (still, she’s one Tough teacher – with a capital “T”:)

Last day of the intensive … honoring the effort we made, being brave to show up (she can yell at you when you are doing something wrong = unsafe), humbled by the practice of yoga – Namaste.
