Buddha Day & Full Moon

Doesn’t this Persian rice dish look like a full moon – it’s made by my chef extraordinaire friend whose name means “BRIGHT” in Persian.  How does this rice get this golden moon like hue?  It’s the Saffron she winks:) Ketogenic diet attempt becomes futile… but what’s better – to say no to a dish a friend made with great care and infused with love to lose few pounds that yo-yo’s up and down anyway; OR to enjoy a well balanced whole foods, nourish body and soul – and be filled with sense of gratitude.  Then comes renewed resolve and a boost of motivation to exercise more:)  Rather than to be repressed, suppressed, dogmatic, rigid, and closed resembling hyper-vigilance and discipline; we are receptive, open, kind and flexible to go with the flow.  This is a person speaking who has lost 40 lbs in my past peak adult weight to the past lowest to the current 123 … so “not dieting” really works.

Sunday … it’s time for reflective meditative practice.

Some words of wisdom to share on a rainy evening where the full moon hides behind the rain clouds…

As rain falls equally on the just and the unjust, do not burden your heart with judgments but rain your kindness equally on all.
– Buddha

Meditate

Live Purely

Be Quiet

Do your work with mastery

Like the moon, come out from behind the clouds

Shine !

– Buddha

Do you see the subtle change in before and after images? Straining vs. Opening; pushing vs. giving-in; torquing vs aligning; lengthening vs. crunching; sagging vs. lifting;  At the hands of a great teacher, Judith, we become balanced and open.

Use of sandbags in standing poses … We cannot sit and meditate if you are physically tight and hardened; energetically stagnant.  Improving the inner flow through series of asanas … standing, sitting, supine to finally be able to … sit quietly without twitching, wiggling, heaving heavy breath … to come to that lightness of being.

It’s a process. A Practice.

Matcha & Chai Blend

Matcha Almond Milk Latte with Chai spices – very hipster barista offered with such pride.  A departure from the Matcha idea in Japan – after all – we are in USA A stop over returning to the Bay Area – so much driving looms ahead – definitely need to yoga tonight.  Will be seeking that healing from  – Stiff shoulders and neck; achy lower back; tired eyes; tight sore hips; sore cranky legs … a remedy to sleep better.  Yoga works.

Grapefruit Thyme:)  Lovely scent.

Moon Valley also has a MUSCLE RUB that is organic and natural vs. some of the other brands I used to use. It’s not as strong as others that smell like Ben-Gay-ish products (that may have stuff like Triethanolamine (a skin, immune system, and respiratory toxin), DMDM Hydantoin (a formaldehyde releaser), and dyes like Blue 1 (CI 42090) and artificial colors )  –  but feel I rather go for gentle but good stuff for long term use, that can be trusted for it’s purity.  Per their label –

PURE INGREDIENTS ! Organic Safflower Oil, Organic Beeswax, Organic Safflower Herb, Orange Essential oil, Organic Cayenne, Organic Ginger, Organic Lobelia, Organic Arnica, Organic Tapioca Starch, Organic Habanero, Organic Clove oil, and Natural vitamin E made from sunflowers. That’s it.

Yes, it’s USA here – a snowboarders, skiers and locals getting their Java – Stars & Stripes – so bright in this dim lit hole in the wall.

New Moon over Snowfall

At Lake Tahoe… arriving very late Friday, walking on piles of snow, falling knee deep at times; waist deep at another time, as snow is starting to melt.

The evening was so dark without any visible moon – reminded that it’s New Moon evening.   As the dark night draped over the skies, the stars were shining bright wherever there were breaks in the seams of shifting fabric of clouds weaving and moving in the night sky.

The air is cold and fresh – cleansing while the body so stiff from 6 hours drive – most ideal time for yoga to stretch – no more stiffness, restoring flexibility to hit the slopes.

The following day, finding myself way up to … elevation of 8260 !  Thin air, really working your lungs to take in that precious oxygen.  It does a body good.

Glorious sun salutation!!
