In the Beginning… Mantra…

Om Mani Padme Hum

translated to mean:

The jewel of consciousness is in the heart’s lotus…

Beautiful…Blessing.

Lecture on Compassion and Forgiveness – Mantra lead by venerable Khen Rinpoche at Nandi Yoga studio tonight.  Here’s the  overly simplified key to aide you in “Buddhism 101” – The Intro:)

lotus = enlightenment

heart = love, compassion…

consciousness = the divine, that’s in you.  Truth, infused in light…

Lovely space at a clean eco-friendly studio to welcome a monk in exile so dedicated to sacred practice of compassion – human act to stop the suffering.  How?  That was the question.  Equanimity…

Whether you agree with or not, does not matter as it’s not a matter of opinion but of the heart –  It’s all good.

* Another great book … by Judith Hanson Lasater, PT & PhD, one of the first generation of yoga teachers in America, learning directly from B.K.S. Iyengar.

***

Mentioned in the last post about attaining desires not assuring happiness – to that affect, apparently there’s a reference by St Teresa of Avila about the unhappiness caused by wishes being granted… as in this proverb my former co-worker often used –  “Be careful what you wish for”…

I might have mentioned something about my take on prayers vs. mantras… No one taught me that but I feel it so in my heart. Hope I did not offend anyone into religion. It’s all good.

“We would often be sorry if our wishes were gratified”

– Aesop (c. 550 BC)

“When the gods wish to punish us they answer our prayers”

– Oscar Wilde in An Ideal Husband (1895)

“Granting our wish one of fate’s saddest jokes is.”

– James Russell Lowell

*********************

Jean and Brenna taught me “Maha Mrityunjaya” mantra and to quote them –  “The vibration of the Mantra empowers us to overcome all obstacles while empowering the healer- within.”  Thank you for your teachings Jean and Brenna:)  Over time, 108 times recited and it’s sinking in:)  Things take a little more time for me as with all fermented nourishment…(does wine count as fermented nutrient ?)   Flow-yin (not throw-in:)  practice whenever possible, daily restorative/meditation… what a healing and energizing balance. This formula works for me; but we are all different; your formula may be completely different and that’s what you find out during your restorative practice through reflection; introspection and meditation – what equation works and what doesn’t – what we should keep trying and strive for; what we should simply drop when it does not serve us. To know that distinction.  Taking a little time-out for self-care… we all deserve it.

Earth Day & Mantra…

IMG_5108

Here’s a Mama horse and her baby pony this Year of the Horse, Earth Day… honoring this Mother Earth… in reverence of her beauty and strength.

“A call to the divine Mother, that we may embody her perfect example of unconditional love and compassion”.

Mantra “He Ma Durga”

Jay jai ma
Jay ma durga
He ma durga
Jay jai ma
He ma durga
I want to love through your love
He ma durga
I want to feel what you feel
He ma durga
I want to see beyond this illusion
to what is real.

Om jayanti mangala kali
Bhadra kali kapalini
Durga kshama shiva dhatri
Swaha swadha namastute

All-conquering mother, remover of darkness
beyond time, reliever of difficulties, loving, forgiving,
supporter of the universe
I offer my respect and devotion,

( lyrics from Sunday night’s playlist…)

By the way, next month, we celebrate Mother’s Day on Sunday, the 11th..

Durga = Goddess of Victory of Good over Evil…it’s about acceptance and love, love, love.
