Strawberry Shortcake

cake_flower3

He is too funny.
And I confess I did send him a question but he has not answered… Maybe it was too difficult a question I posed or that there is no answer.

This is not very profound but funny – as in humorous – immature “princess” hangup she needs to grow up from:)but we all had this kind of selfishness growing up I think. In fact, some grown adults still confuse the definition of love as has Midori:

“I guess I’ve been waiting so long I’m looking for perfection. That makes it tough.”

“Waiting for the perfect love?”

“No, even I know better than that. I’m looking for selfishness. Perfect selfishness.

Like, say I tell you I want to eat strawberry shortcake. And you stop everything you’re doing and run out and buy it for me. And you come back out of breath and get down on your knees and hold this strawberry shortcake out to me.

And I say I don’t want it anymore and throw it out the window. That’s what I’m looking for.”

“I’m not sure that has anything to do with love,” I said with some amazement.

“It does,” she said. “You just don’t know it. There are time in a girl’s life when things like that are incredibly important.”

“Things like throwing strawberry shortcake out the window?”

“Exactly. And when I do it, I want the man to apologize to me. “Now I see, Midori. What a fool I have been! I should have known that you would lose your desire for strawberry shortcake. I have all the intelligence and sensitivity of a piece of donkey shit. To make it up to you, I’ll go out and buy you something else. What would you like? Chocolate Mousse? Cheesecake?”

“So then what?”

“So then I’d give him all the love he deserves for what he’s done.”

“Sounds crazy to me.”

“Well, to me, that’s what love is…”

― Haruki Murakami, Norwegian Wood

I think this passage got my attention only because I have sworn off sugar for this month – strawberry shortcake, chocolate mousse, cheesecake? ahhhh… off-limit foods…Tapas for the month… it’s hard to give up sweets. But having come back from Tokyo, I have decided to offset the indulges – my mother has sweet tooth. Wanted to make her? happy so I probably shared a manju and wagashi, yougashi, everyday at tea time… photos to follow.

Joyful

じょいふる:)Girl POWER in Japan … Cute and … “JOYFUL”, From LOUD crescendo to hushed … diminuendo and then the volume goes up again.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wsvNsfPZPiE

They are just having fun being … JOYFUL in “matsuri” mode. Their idea of an idol might be a little different from a standard set here so wanted to share. No cleavage necessary, no high heels, no revealing skin showing or tight clothing basically needed to sell yourself … to be an idol there:) What a relief for moms of daughters…

I miss the participatory group energy – love the caller-response exchange and the comic touch. It probably looks a bit odd to the Westerners how the fans have a cheering section who dance along (same movements kind of like bon-odori at a festival…) – anyway, I don’t know why I am posting this (so unrelated to … yoga) I must be getting home sick… last year New Years and Christmas was in Tokyo but this year … not. sob.

No matter how long I have been here, I still consider where my mother is, where my father is buried, my home. But this adopted home is lovely too – in gratitude. America is a beautiful country too where the girls can truly shine, not just on stage but off the stage. I respect so many of the women around me who are so beautiful here.

America is a country of immigrants – If you can’t jump on the plane to go back to the old country to see your mother or your sister or ….. Then create a family here & be the seed … you can get “there” (where?) through the practice of yoga.

So sorry this post is not very ZEN:) but wanted to debunk Asian women’s stereotype of shyness (its dependent on a person not race) abroad and share this study in contrasts, where the opposites – the loud and the hushed silence (shh…) are … separate and one.

Wag-More-Bark-Less, the blog…

shibainu(from Pinterest – recalling there’s a photo just like this somewhere in our album:)

Inquired about this motto of mine – this bumper sticker would make a good stocking stuffer. Recently, I was reminded of this “mantra” as some man driving a sports car with road rage gave me the finger and yelled an unspeakable obscenity (lol) on LA highway (coming from N. Cal, I was apparently going too slow at 55mph on Santa Monica freeway…did you know it’s 65?). I was thrilled to see my mantra made into a bumper sticker – so weird to see my thoughts that came to me when we first adopted our shiba-inu many many years ago. He taught us so much of his dog-wisdom:) Life’s too short for rudeness, anger and fear. Smile with kindness to those haters… full of hope…perhaps some time out for yoga would help that man who will have high blood pressure & heart problems otherwise. To him and to all, Joy, Joy, Joy – remember, “wag more, bark less” !
