Ow, oh… need to use my own brain:) Less “lazy habits of thinking” more creating and making… on my own.
Any man who reads too much and uses his own brain too little falls into lazy habits of thinking.
– Albert Einstein
When freed from old habits and incessant thinking, when we can empty our mind through the practice of meditation, we are really, finally reached that place…of peace.
Peace comes from within, do not seek it without. A quote usually attributed to Buddha but apparently he didn’t say this. Perhaps it does not matter. Here’s something he did say though,
“Be vigilant; guard your mind against negative thoughts.”
There seems to be a misunderstanding on that quote for some to take it further, the logic goes something like – then it would follow that to include people, those with negative thoughts… or so called negative people should be avoided to preserve your positive mind…Really? Yet those “negative people” are who needs the most compassion from self and others. Might they be just going through some struggles and suffering? People with negative thoughts are NOT negative. We do not need to guard against negative people as there’s no such people. And if there are negative people, its not as though it’s a plague (although having an immunity boost may help not making it contagious:) From time to time, people may possess negative thoughts – we all do and that’s normal – each of us, as a container, thoughts filling that container may be negative or positive, but our intrinsic essence is not negative. We need not guard against anybody – its negative thoughts within us; not others we need to guard against the most. Judith H. Lasater said there’s a need to “get over yourself”. So true.
