“If you have nothing GOOD to say”, then,

“SAY NOTHING.”

Mom sayings continues,

“If you having nothing good to say, then, why speak? If you have nothing good to say then by all means be quiet !”

My mother used to say this often … Referring especially to some people who tend to dwell on the negative and spread that negative energy. What she is saying is – when you communicate, communicate good will based on good intentions – no hidden agenda.

Yet another teaching from my … mom dearest, would be how to shield yourself and deflect and defend yourself from those with ill intentions borne out of – who knows – maybe insecurities and fear.

Thank you mom for this reminder!

“Make The Ordinary Come Alive”

Do not ask your children

to strive for extraordinary lives.

Such striving may seem admirable,

but it is a way of foolishness.

Help them instead to find the wonder

and the marvel of an ordinary life.

Show them the joy of tasting

tomatoes, apples and pears.

Show them how to cry

when pets and people die.

Show them the infinite pleasure

in the touch of a hand.

And make the ordinary come alive for them.

The extraordinary will take care of itself.

William Martin, The Parent’s Tao Te Ching: Ancient Advice for Modern Parents

As the new school year starts, I am reminded of this as I see all these students, some with smiles and some with gloomy faces walking to local schools … So proud of them for putting on the masks and facing each day anew undeterred by the uncertainties adults are grappling with. Actually, many are suffering from inordinate amount of stress and anxieties so let’s support them through this difficult times – so together, we may grow resiliant and yet kind compassionate brave beings to change this world for the better.

I will be quoting another of my mom’s favorite saying tomorrow:)

Birthday Party during Covid?

Last month a wedding (which I missed) and yesterday’s birthday party – grateful for the vaccine which allowed for the gathering to take place … it’s been sooooo long. Still the precautions were taken – gathering in outside and many wearing masks – thank you for caring about others:)

We could resume some semblence of normalcy if we all acted responsibly and did our part. Vaccine is for public health – no one likes needles and everyone shares the fears of the unkown. Better informed by trusted sources of medical and science based facts. We can discern facts and truths from the false claims by the fear mongers who take delight in one’s ignorance – yeah, you’ve got your freedom. You’ve got your freedom to place yourself above all others I guess – then – rush into ICU to be cared by those who sacrificed for the sake of others, knowing full well that a little bite out of personal freedom is the price we pay for life liberty and justice for all – As responsible earth-being, we make our small sacrifices and think about the community as a whole at times of crises, don’t we?
