Anything Cute

Yes, I do.

That was my fortune from New Moon week outing to a Chinese restaurant.

I am not superstitious but I caught a cold and was miserable Friday the 13th. This is what happens when you are “too busy” to practice yoga – skip it and your immune system is compromised. Should have been resting but had to see that rare Honey Full Moon – so beautiful. It was an evening where I felt so exhausted – too drained to cook dinner, having sustained myself on green tea and half a banana all day… dinner should be a bit nourishing, I was feeling better and craved sizzling rice soup (and I put some ginger slivers from the Xiao Long Bao “XLB” dipping sauce…lovely for the respiratory blockages). Chinese restaurant is always full of 3-4 generation families, it’s a joy to witness such filial atmosphere.

I realize it’s quite kitsch for some but… I love the idea of fortune cookies – I give away the cookie part but enjoy cracking it open with anticipation of the fortune inside. It brings out the inner child in me, lol

Here are the sampling of the fortunes we read to each other this Full Moon weekend:

“Help people reach their full potential”

“In the ocean of knowledge, only those who want to learn will see the land.”

“Dogs have owners, cats have staff.”

“Ignorance on fire is better than knowledge on ice.” ?

“If you tell the truth you don’t have to remember anything.”

Guess which one was mine?

Yes, the first one… of course.

What a brand name for a fortune cookie – “Super K Fortune Cookie” !?
How super is that?!!!
K is super !? Humility a virtue… modesty ?

Whenever I’m around someone who is modest, I think, ‘Run like hell and all of fire.’ You don’t want modesty, you want humility.

Beautiful People Healthy Living Yoga

Shailene overcame Scoliosis as a teenager. Hard to believe that she once suffered from a curved spine given her erect well aligned image today… Reported to practice yoga regularly…might be the secret to that beautiful posture. No longer a “Divergent”, more mainstream, as more and more Americans practice yoga today than ever before.

Voices of the angels

Sarah Brightman’s Winter Light with a lovely messages to share:

Then there’s Teshima Aoi’s voice… not as operatic and sophisticated but her emotions are heartfelt… her natural down to earth sweetness is simply… dreamy – I love her voice.

If I were to compare the two voices, a fabric analogy is something like delicate silky and earthy “Kasuri” for Teshima Aoi and chiffon sparkle or gorgeous silk tapestry for Sarah Brightman? Teshima Aoi’s voice is full of vulnerability and … “kasureteiru” – a bit “breathy” (“brushed” stroke like whisper-ish), hoarse and almost like an extended sigh, Hahhhh fading out at times – Sweet as honey, like Amber – very Earthy ! Sarah Brightman is… a siren. Her voice is … angelic, crystal “bright” and – brilliant like a polished cut diamond – such technique, such range – OMG – So Heavenly ! Both magnificent in her own way. It’s a study in contrast of Yang and Yin qualities, both beautiful and both elements in balance are needed to bring about the joyous wholeness in our lives.

Her singing resonates resistance breathing – she has that yogini breath control with masterful intonation – she hits the notes with perfect pitch but not of an opera singer…rather uniquely and pleasantly breathy/raspy hoarse whisper… that has almost a blurred fuzzy feel to it.

Here’s Teshima Aoi’s live… goosebumps… So tender and delicate. Lovely how she starts out acapella gently easing into the melody …Love<3 & the funny thing is- it's only good because her voice is delicate, fading and that raspy "eeeh" sound is, for me SO non-operatic and down-to-earth...like a whisper...when the same song is sang in clear English, I cannot see why anyone would care for it much. The magic is gone.
