Autumn Cleanse

Avocado toast for breakfast; Zachery’s deep dish spinich & mushroom; Miki baked pumpkin pie for dessert – gratitude for all the veggies as 30 or so variety of veggies grace our table weekly. California has been a fertile land of so much abundance of luscious plant foods … just look at these pickings while forest fires rage on and people are struggling – it’s so disconcerting.

May California restore its balance so a state of integration and homeostasis (to counter the global warming with public measures to reverse and improve, and ressurect from the ravages of recent weeks). May peaceful co-existence prevail where people can live in safety and harmony on this rich land filled with forests, farm lands, rivers and oceans and the whole eco-system that depend on this soil, waters and all the … beauty.

Want to end the day with … gratitude … in spite of all the – – – -, name 10 things/people/whatever you are thankful for … Better days are coming once we hit the bottom, only way is up and up.

Purposeful Self-Care

Persimmon Cake Loaves with Pecans; Natto for those of you who don’t know what it is as it came up – more later – it’s fermented soy beans; Rainbow home fries breakfast; spices powder for curry; arurgula salad with goat cheese, cherry tomatoes, cauliflowers, grilled garbanzo beans … served with Bastami Rice, yogurt/cucumbers, topped with pumpkin seeds; parfait? of plain greek yogurt with berries, topped with Apricot Jam, almonds and pumpkin seeds … and Blackberry:)

Purposeful in that … we all need to be strong, resiliant, and healthy in order to take care of those who need assistance; who can use a little care … KINDNESS; that may be your family; friends… neighbors … to bring about relief and peace… reminded during this particulary tough year 2020, we are separate but interconnected. Protect what matters.

This year’s Autum Equinox falls on 22 September at 14:30 BST.

The equinox is when the center of the Sun crosses the Earth’s equator. The length of that day for most places is slightly longer than 12 hours, length of night slightly shorter than 12 hours, but overall, it’s that time of balance of daytime to nighttime. Telegraph explains the science well.

In most cultures with ancient roots across the world, there there is the marked definative transition of seasons, humans have acknowledged and celebrated the transition with varoius rituals and … foods, yes, celebratory foods, usually after a period of restraint and reboot of our digestive system.

In start of celebration of the Autumn equinox, we had meat-free day and a simple vegetarian dinner consisting of (I am sorry – I should have taken photos but … they disappeared so fast…):

Tofu/2 ways (age-dashi & Atsu-Age with green onions and red peppers)

Grilled cauliflower in olive oil with lemon zest/infused garlic

Buckwheat noodles made from Burdock roots (soba noodles with detoxifying root veggie:) dipped in light dashi broth with Nori, sea veggie:)

& we are stuffed and still feeling light – stuffed & light, how is that possible, right? !

This week we did not get the veggie box but our thoughts are with those farm workers who actually harvest those veggies to bring to our table – smoke filled air or not, the workers had to be out there on the fields picking the fresh fruits and veggies we consume. Cultivating attitude of Gratitude this Equinox as we head into Thanksgiving season in couple of weeks. (AND yes, the election before … If you have the priviledge, duty and the rights to – please exercise it by VOTING !)
