Kamala Harris

“No Women No Cry !”

Racism is real – I have experienced it firsthand. Global warming is real – we are experiencing it. The Pandemic is real – it’s not a hoax. Science is real – it’s not fake news; Data is real – facts don’t lie. Violence & Divsion are real – we need to overcome them. Having worked in Congressional district office as an intern while at Cal, I cannot be more thrilled to see someone so REAL. Finally, someone we can get excited about ! Someone of humble origin who understands the realities of regular folks ! Someone not corrupted by material greed and hate!

Someone … intelligent !

Before all the quotes and soundbites of politics, I focus on the ordinary beauty of this human being …quotes of Kamala Harris:

My parents met when they were graduate students at UC Berkeley in the 1960s. They were both active in the civil-rights movement.

I have loved to cook since I was a child in my mother’s kitchen. If I don’t have time to cook, I’ll just read a cookbook.

My mother came from India to go to the University of California, Berkeley.

My mother cooked like a scientist. She had a giant Chinese-style cleaver that she chopped with, and a cupboard full of spices.

A family looks for ways to support and inspire one another.

I do not believe that government should be in the business of telling women what they should do with their bodies.

Upon being elected, I will give the United States Congress a hundred days to get their act together and have the courage to pass reasonable gun safety laws. If they fail to do it, then I will take executive action.

Finally, Sanity & Integrity …

You have to see and smell and feel the circumstances of people to really understand them.

& Empathy !

I learned that Kamala means … LOTUS and we know how lotus blooms, in spite of the mud. Many of us may feel we are mired in and stuck in the mud, but … there’s hope, there’s light at the end of the tunnel.

May we bloom like the lotus, at home in muddy waters.

Everything’s going to be alright !

I put this link posted on YouTube, a concert at Harvard Square which would have been packed had it not been restricted to only take place during the day. Apparently relegated to daytime event rather than the usual evening concert due to fears that his concert would bring down the house. His concerts would NORMALLY be FULL PACKED and would have brought down the house – Just like what’s happening now – The convention would normally be packed but not this time. STILL, still the message … can virtually bring down the house.

“It’s a conscious time NOW …Everyone has the answer.”

Rock Pose?

Yes, there is a Rock Pose in the Kundalini yoga tradition. Basically it’s Zazen, Japanese traditional sitting. It’s a day-to-day regular sitting in the traditional Japanese living style on tatami. There were no chairs until introduced by the West so imagine how we would sit if we did not have chairs – easy. All traditional tea ceremonies and of course, meditation practices are in … zazen.

There is an old Japanese proverb:

“Be prepared to sit on a rock/stone for 3 years ”

Figuratively it means, if you expect to achieve success, achieve excellence or mastery in anything, we need to spend a very long time. The proverb expresses how one needs to have the tenacity and risiliance to not give up easily … but to keep at it, stay with it. Many people start something new – yoga – pilates – gym – some exercise – but tend to drop out and drop off the path. While it’s probably better than never starting, but you have to keep practicing; keep showing up. The proverb reminds us that if we stick with it, long enough that even initially a cold slab of stone will become warm with your heat, your tenacity and passion.

Rock pose, so named after apparently because the pose is so good for digestion, it is said, you can even digest rocks – true or not – I have another theory. It’s more by sitting in zazen, we are able to DIGEST all that is so difficult to digest in a psychic, emotional level. Negative emotions of resentment, humiliation, indignation, anger, and fear are digested and what needs to be eliminated leaves you, what we need to sustain ourselves with stays – positive emotions of love, pride, humility, compassion and … gratitude. Always coming back to your inner rock.

Our “thinking” body and mind are amazing – let’s find “your” yoga to reap in all the benefits of this tried-tested and true practice.

Rock Garden

We had a cooking class thanks to a very generous, talented and creative folks from a certain Silicon Valley company- Virtual but very real pasta from scratch making class where all ingredients are sent the day before and the day of, even a bottle of wine. So surprised to see the label named so uncanny … Rock Garden a mini project I had just completed … I had created a mini rock garden with rocks/stones from Lake Tahoe (NOT from public land of course) … to better connect to enliven our sagging energy. Isn’t this like a small miracle ? Here I bring back “rocks” to make a rock garden, studying about Japanese and native american teachings; then presented with a bottle of wine named … Rock Garden????!!! You can call it a coincidence but … isn’t it a miracle?

It’s as though … We all need a boost – we all need to be uplifted and it doesn’t have to be ethereal heavenly angel voice breaking into an operatic chorus … just a subtle sign is enough … Convinced more than ever that when you let go of negative toxic sad words and limiting stories, we notice that

All are in ALIGNMENT… accidental, but somehow intentional… there’s a little wonder in the ordinary all around us and

Gratitude for noticing.

Gratitude for the positive and forward thinking people finding ways to connect and learn. It gave me a renewed sense of confidence that … we will be alright; we will somehow get through this. There’s so much ingenuity now in how we problem solve. We didn’t have that insight … before.

Still, I do look forward to throwing an actual in person pasta making gathering to celebrate Resilience and Kindness and … learning something new. Why don’t we Celebrate that brand new skill we acquired together. Pasta ! Yoga! Rocks! Let’s look forward to that bright day when we can again gather, bow, slap shoulders, exchange hugs … and make adjustments hahaha wink:

Pasta:)

Yoga:)

Rocks:)
