{"id":22302,"date":"2019-02-26T13:57:58","date_gmt":"2019-02-26T21:57:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wagayoga.com\/blog\/?p=22302"},"modified":"2019-02-27T10:39:49","modified_gmt":"2019-02-27T18:39:49","slug":"reviewing-trauma-informed-yoga-module","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wagayoga.com\/blog\/yoga\/reviewing-trauma-informed-yoga-module\/","title":{"rendered":"Reviewing Trauma-Informed Yoga Module"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A module in Yoga Therapy Teacher Training at Niroga Institute, taught by Antonia Fokken, LMFT, RYT 500.\u00a0 What was a surprising take away from this module? That:\u00a0 &#8220;Yoga can be Medicine or Poison&#8221; depending on how it&#8217;s taught as I had believed that yoga as a general rule is medicinal.\u00a0 But just like not all foods are nouishing and good; while some foods are indeed medicinal &#8211; rainbow colored veggies and fruits and grains, while other process foods high in bad kind of fat and carbs are not &#8211; they are both foods.\u00a0 One can draw a similar analogy when it comes to yoga &#8211; depending on how it&#8217;s transmitted and instructed, the effect is so different so it all starts out with &#8211; your intention.\u00a0 To be medicinal or poison, it&#8217;s that impactful, your teaching methodology, so we have to be so careful.\u00a0 It&#8217;s not about TLC and soft voice, being nice, temporary fix of a pose etc. &#8211; all the prevalent misunderstanding &#8211; it&#8217;s about how we need to be so so mindful, and,\u00a0 above all, do no harm.
